Berivan Hussain and Ciwan Hassan, the two co-chairs of the Dêrik city administration, gave an interview to the Rojava Information Centre in February 2024 about their city’s twinning with Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg.

They thanked us for the donations that have already made a number of projects in and around Dêrik possible. And they thank the association for raising public project funds.

But above all, Berivan and Ciwan emphasised how much this partnership gives them strength in the face of the constant threats and attacks, not only in Dêrik, but for everyone in north-east Syria:

Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg District Assembly condemns the Turkish attacks on our twin town Dêrik

With a large majority, the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg District Assembly (BVV) passed a resolution on 30 November 2022 condemning Turkey’s war actions against the civilian infrastructure in the vicinity of our twin town Dêrik, which violate international law, and expressing its condolences to the relatives of the 11 dead.

Fears about the Mobile Clinic

The BVV shares our fear that the Mobile Clinic could also become a target of attack and assured us of continued support in our efforts to improve living conditions in and around Dêrik.

Documentary "A Bridge to Rojava"

At the 12th Kurdish Film Festival in Berlin, the premiere of the documentary film “A Bridge to Rojava” by Kurdish filmmaker Ekrem Heydo took place on 16.10.2022 in front of an audience of around 200 people.

“A Bridge to Rojava” is about the emergence and development of our twinning association and its projects. It also shows the everyday life of the people in northern and north-eastern Syria and the omnipresent threat from the Turkish army and its Islamist auxiliaries.
